Irina Gabasa tops November tourney

CEBU, Philippines - Junior golf standout Irina Gabasa topped last Saturday’s November Monthly Medal at Alta Vista Golf and Country Club as she claimed the class A lowest gross plum.

The 15-year-old Gabasa scored nines of 36 and 39 and edged Alex Yeo in the countback up to the 14th hole to win the top plum. 

Yeo, however, bagged the lowest net trophy for class A with his score of 69 strokes while runner-up honors went to Arnel Kwan with a net 71 and edging Dominic Espinoza in the countback.

The lowest gross for class B went to Alex Garcia with a score of 79 strokes on nines of 38 and 41.

Wilky Lim fired the lowest net for class B with a score of 66 strokes beating Paul Lee and Benjie Hortelano in the countback. Lee settled for the runner-up honors after also pulling past Hortelano.

Al Alcibar won the lowest gross title for class C with his output of 86 strokes on nines of 44 and 42.

The lowest net for class C was scored by Jonathan Yu with 69 while Kent Ong bagged the runner-up honors with his net score of 71.

In the seniors’ class, club director Vicente ‘Inting’ Go won the lowest gross title after scattering three birdies and scoring three-over-par 75.

Pete See had the lowest net with his 67 while runner-up honors went to Lino Dagus with a net score of 69.

The lowest gross plum for the ladies division went to Emy Lou Tan with 88 strokes on nines of 44 and 44.

Tessa Ozoa had the lowest net scoring 77 strokes off a gross 102.

Paul Lopez topped the guest division played using the Callaway system with his net score of 74. Runner-up honors went to Marlou Velasquez with a net 75.

The prize for nearest to the pin on hole number 6 went to Yasunori Hara, whose tee shot landed five feet and ten inches from the cup.

The most accurate drive on hole number 11 was made by Cristino Lim, who was only two feet and five inches off the center line.
