CEBU, Philippines - Nothing but the best and a lasting memory out of the Cebu City Marathon is being eyed by the organizers as they decided to go “high-tech” for the January 10, 2010 event by investing on a miniature transponder called a ChampionChip.
Under this system, the runners will use a chip to record their times in the most accurate manner possible.
In a press conference yesterday at Casino Español, the orgazining Cebu Executive Runners’ Club has bared it allocated half a million pesos courtesy of 100 Plus Sports Drink and Summit Natural Drinking Water for the system and the chips of around 3,000 runners.
The ChampionChip is waterproof and can be used in all weather conditions.
With this technology, the organizers will have a fast, accurate and highest quality results.
More to it, results can now be checked at the event’s official website within 24 hours from the race.
It may be very expensive but CERC decided to gamble on this as they hope to make a good and lasting impression on their biggest running event, so far.
“We only get to organize an event like this for what? Once in a year? So why not have this ChampionChip and make a good impression to the participants,” said John Pages, one of the driving force behind the Cebu Marathon.
With the ChampionChip that will be sourced out from a company in Manila, the organizers have increased the registration fee to P350 for the 21K and P450 for the full marathon.
Registration area is at Active Zone at the Ayala Center-Cebu or at the Philippine Sports Commission-VII office inside the Cebu City Sports Center.
Meanwhile, CERC president Jesse Taborada disclosed that different clubs from all over the country and even abroad have already sent feelers to join the race. —Caecent No-ot Magsumbol (FREEMAN NEWS)
