Mawin's stays unbeaten in JS caging

-

CEBU, Philippines - Mawin’s Kitchenette of team owners Sherwin Lequit and Mhiki Adriatico chopped down the Blue Marlins, 71-57, to keep its unbeaten record intact in the JS Contractors Cup 2009 basketball tournament at the Don Vicente Sotto Memorial Gym in Brgy. Punta Princesa, this city.

From a 24-16 start, Mawin’s slowly chilled off in the next two periods, allowing the Blue Marlins to take an eight-point lead, 53-45, at the end of the third quarter.

Mawin’s, however, rattled the Blue Marlins with their stifling defense in the fourth period. As a result, they quickly erased the deficit and changed the course of the match in their favor using a blazing 26-4 run.

Former USC Warrior Bong Eleazar paced Mawin’s with 27 points, while Lequit added 12 points. Egin Taborada and Mat Vallejo donated 10 markers each.

In the other games, the Ritchie squad edged out the Scourge, 62-60, while Emilmich of team owner Emily Badon won by default over the Victor Village.
