Labogon chess tourney slated Dec.5

CEBU, Philippines - Close to P10,000 in cash prizes are at stake for the top performing entries in the Brgy. Labogon Open and Kiddie Active Chess Tournament starting at 9 pm on December 5 at the Labogon barangay hall in Mandaue City.

The one-day contest follows a 7-round Swiss system format, with each player given 25 minutes to finish a game.

The champion in the open division will take home P2,000, while the second and third placers will receive P1,000 and P700. The fourth and fifth will get P500 and P300, while the sixth to 10th finishers will pocket P200 apiece.

The top three winners in the kiddies category will claim P1,000, P600 and P400, while the fourth and fifth will get P200 and P100.

In the event of a tie, a direct encounter, Bucholz, median Bucholz or the progressive scoring system may be applied to settle the issue.

Entry fee is pegged at P50 for the kiddies and P100 for the open bracket. Onsite registrants will be assessed with P150.

The event is jointly sponsored by Rose Pharmacy and the barangay council of Labogon under the leadership of Brgy. Capt. Damaso Tumulak.
