Fiesta Cup tees off tomorrow in Mactan
CEBU, Philippines - Close to 200 players have signed up for the 1st Lapu-Lapu Fiesta Cup Golf Tournament, which tees off tomorrow at the Mactan Island Golf Club inside the Mactan Benito Ebuen Air Base.
The two-day tournament is a two-man team event which will be played using the best ball scramble on the first day and alternate stroke on the second day.
The ceremonial tee off is set at 7 am tomorrow. The event is part of the activities lined up for the annual fiesta celebration of Lapu-Lapu City in honor of the Virgin of the Rule (Birhen sa Regla).
Organizers will still accept late entries and registration fee is pegged at P5,000 per team.
This event is backed by Pagcor-Casino Filipino Mactan and the City of Lapu-Lapu as platinum sponsors.
Hole-in-one sponsors are Global Air System Holiday World Tour, Philippines Brand Dried Mangoes, Attic Tours Inc., Philippine Airlines and Pagcor Cebu.
Donors for the event are Atty. Edgar Gica, Headway Caps, Tai-1, M. Lhuillier Jewelers, Pantheon and Timex.
Efren Belarmino, general manager of Plantation Bay Resort and Spa and tournament chairman, said that hole-in-one prizes include a Honda City, a motorcycle and a set of Honma irons.
This event is open to all golfers, but those from out of town or from clubs that are not part of the Regional handicapping Network have top bring their club certified handicaps.
Teams shall be classified under four handicap categories depending on the average of the two players. Class A will be for 0 to 12, B for 13 to 19, C for 20 to 24 and D for 25 and above. There will also be a ladies division.
In case a team is composed of a male and a female player, such will be classified under the four handicap categories.
The champions and runner-up for each class will receive trophies and other prizes.
There will also be the lowest gross and lowest net champions.
Ret. Gen. Rodante Joya, GM of the the club, said that tee off time will be from 5:45 a.m. until 1 p.m. The awards ceremony on the 14th will be held at Casino Filipino inside the Waterfront Airport Hotel in Mactan. – THE FREEMAN
