CEBU, Philippines - The Cebuano weightlifters broke several records in the 2009 Philippine Weightlifting Association, Inc. (PWAI) National Five-In-One Men and Women’s Weight-lifting Championships in Tagbilaran City over the weekend.
Former Palarong Pambansa top thrower-turned weightlifter Angelica Lado led the Cebuano’s charge as she reset the +75 kilograms division collegiate, junior and national record in the snatch and clean and jerk.
Lado of the University of San Jose-Recoletos shattered the standard snatch record of 75 kgs. with her 80 kgs. lift and cleared the clean and jerk from 95 to 100 kilograms.
Kelly Kay Rojas of USJ-R and AIS squad smashed the national junior record in the -48 kgs. division with her 63 kgs. lift and 80 kgs. in the clean and jerk, five kilos up from the previous record.
USJ-R-Baseline’s Martin Patenio and University of Cebu’s Joselito Padilla also established two collegiate records.
Patenio, who competed under the men’s 62 kgs. class, eclipsed the record of UE’s Edrew Cardano in the snatch, from 100 to 102 kgs. and from 122 with his 125 kgs. effort in the clean and jerk.
Padilla, on the other hand, had no choice but erase fellow Cebuano Jefferson Querubin’s collegiate record in +105 kgs. snatch from 133 to 140 and 153 to 167 kgs. in the clean and jerk. – Caecent No-ot Magsumbol (FREEMAN NEWS)
