Slaughter, Fajardo face off a new in All-Star Games
CEBU, Philippines - Greg Slaughter and June Mar Fajardo will again face off today in the annual All-Star Games of the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, Inc. (CESAFI) All-Stars Games at the Cebu Coliseum.
The games, featuring the best collegiate and high school basketball players in the city, give players a chance to be civil with each other and at the same time offer entertainment to basketball aficionados before they play in the cutthroat semifinals phase of the tournament.
Game time is set at 1p.m.
Greg Slaughter, the 6’11’ center of the defending eight-time champion the University of the Visayas will again lead the East Team of coach Elmer “Boy” Cabahug.
The other East starters are forwards Edwin Bibera of USJ-R and Frtiz Dajalos of USPF with guards Chris Diputado and Harold Cincoflores of UV.
The rest of the team are Ricthum Dennison and Eulogio Lasala, Jr. Edrian Lao and Phil Mercader of UV, Edmar Pateño, Kurt Amores and Marvin Duran of USJ-R, Chester Curso of CIT and Ellison Rivera and Elwin Durano of USPF.
June Mar Fajardo, the 6’9” slotman of UC, heads the West Team of coach Roel Gomez. Back-up are Eleazar Armecin and Gilbert Gallarde of SWU at forwards with Janssen Abella of UC and Eliud Poligrates of SWU at guards.
The other members of the team are Moncrief Rogado, Rommel Luceño and Kelvin Juliane of UC, Giovanni Padillo, Sam Hermosa, Gene Noel Gallarde and Joven Cid Cortes of USC, Arrd Diango and Rene Pacquiao of SWU and Celso Colegado, Jr. of DBTC.
A 3-point shootout and dunk contest will spice up the games.
Moncrief Rogado of UC is ready to defend his title as the 3-point king while Elwin Durano of USPF will take on all comers in the dunk contest.
Rogado will have to contend with Demo Nuevo Filter of USPF, Michael Cantonao of USC, Arvin Kim Gomez of UC, Mykiel Cabahug of UV, Marvin Duran of USJR, Celso Colegado Jr. of DTBC, Eliud Poligrates of SWU and Karen Rick dela Cerna of CIT.
Durano will have to outlast the likes of Junjun Lasala of UV, Kevin Quilantang of UC, Abulaiz Suliman of USJ-R, Rene Pacquiuao of SWU, Jefford Aldave of DBTC and Chester Curso of CIT.
The curtain raiser will be the game between the best high school players in the city.
The East team of coach Delfin Pepito, Jr. will have Gerald Legarde, Francisco Arong and Gleenson Ybañez of UV, Mark Jayven Tallo of CIT and Rommel Diapera of USPF as his starting unit.
The others are Anthony Pero, Edcor Marata and Mark Linao of UV, Clyvin Limalima, Franklyn Batiquin and Joseph Nalos of CIT, Harvey Palapar and Anthony Romaguera of USC, Joshua Corcilles of USPF, and Jerry Lin of CEC.
The opposing West Team of coach Reggie Licanda have Alvin Labololabo, Jr., Alfred Codilla, Jerei Marion Pingoy and Gerald Ampoon of UC and Clint Muñez of USJ-R.
The team’s other players are Alexander Nazareno, Gudeve Edu Autentico and Venjie Trozo of USJ-R, Krisstofer Portes, Adven Jess Diputado, Adrian Muller, Gabe Dominic Branzuela and Jerry Jan Albert Seno of SHS-J, Laurence Ruiz and John Ruiz of DBTC.
The champion in the three-point contest will receive P5,000 with the first runner-up getting P3,000. The slamdunk champion will pocket P5,000.
