Two triathletes, a running coach and a rehab doctor will speak in tomorrow’s running clinic titled “Why I Love Running” at the Parklane International Hotel from 1:30 to 4:00 in the afternoon.
This is the second installment, in a series of running clinics, planned by the Cebu Executives Running Club to help runners prepare for the Cebu Marathon in January 10, 2010.
Noy Jopson, Raffy Uytiepo, Dr. Renald Peter T. Ramiro and Chris Aldeguer may not be able to call down fire or brimstone when they speak but I guarantee that their cup will be overflowing when they talk about running.
Noy Jopson will talk about his experience while competing in the Ironman races and his strategy when running. Jopson, a triathlete, finished first among Filipino entries in the Ironman 70.3 Race in Camarines Sur last August 23.
Cebu’s Marathon Man Raffy Uytiepo needs no introduction. He has coached the likes of current Philippine marathon record-holder “Vertik” Buenavista, Roy Vence, the late Jimmy dela Torre, among others. He will talk about the “Do’s and Don’ts” in joining marathons.
Dr. Renald Peter T. Ramiro was my running buddy during the 2009 Sinulog Half-Marathon. He will speak about preventing and treating running injuries. A respected rehab doctor, he’s currently the dean of Rehabilitative Science at Cebu Doctors University. Most of the city’s runners (including this writer) have consulted with Dr. Ramiro on a few occasions.
Chris Aldeguer will share his insights and tips in running a marathon. Aldeguer is the youngest son of boxing promoter and manager Tony Aldeguer. He was an active triathlete before he shifted his sights to running marathons the past two years. So far, he has finished two marathons - Las Vegas and Hong Kong.
This free clinic is for all running enthusiasts from beginner to advanced. Those interested may contact Marlin of ASAP Advertising at telephone number 232-8518 to 19.

When I saw the picture of Rening Ylaya in plaster cast, I thought a truck hit him! Rening, at 73, is the oldest active runner in the city. No, he wasn’t run over by a truck but crashed on the track after stepping on unattended hurdles left overnight by high school athletes at the Cebu City Sports Center.
Rening suffered a fractured right shoulder and have cuts and bruises all over his face and knees.
How in the world could high school athletes leave the oval without taking care of the hurdles after practice? Common sense or simple courtesy dictates that they should take care of their equipment after using them!
