Another running clinic

FULL POINT - Nimrod NL Quiones -

Organizers of the Cebu City Marathon set on January 10, 2010 seem to be getting a lot of positive response about their project.

With the increasing number of running buffs, there is no shortage of participants to the different events even if they happen at the same time on one weekend or one weekend after the other.

The running bug has bitten so many people and seeing many of my friends looking so much healthier with their trimmer bodies also encourages me to stay fit.

I asked Dr. Laurence Lim of Sugbu Medical during my weekly therapy yesterday if it would be fine for me to go back to pounding concrete with my heels, but he advised me not to do so.

Well, I guess I’ll have to do the next best thing, which is to support running in my little way.

I was told yesterday by my fellow sports columnist and distant cousin John Pages that the success of the first running clinic has spawned a second one set this weekend at the Parklane International Hotel.

This running clinic is one of the events held by the Cebu Executive Runners Club leading to the Cebu City Marathon.

This Saturday’s clinic will be from 1:30 to 4 p.m. and is entitled, “Why I Love Running.”

The speakers will be Noy Jopson, an accomplished triathlete and a big running buff. He will be joined by The Freeman’s marathon man Raffy Uytiepo, Dr. Renald Ramiro and Chris Aldeguer.

Raffy is an accomplished running coach and organizer of events. He also writes a weekly column for this paper.

Dr. Ramiro, a popular rehab doctor, will be discussing a very important topic – running injuries and how to avoid them.

Chris is the youngest son of Ninong Tony Aldeguer, who is one of the biggest heroes of Cebu boxing not as a fighter, but as patron for both amateur and professional boxers.

I remember Chris going to New Zealand several years ago to train in triathlon, but aside from that he has a few marathons under his belt.

This seminar is open free to the public, please contact Marlin of ASAP Advertising at 232-8518 to 19 for more information.

The Pink Tee is set today at the Mactan Island Golf and Country Club.

I got word about the tournament from one of Cebu’s foremost breast cancer warriors, Manang Me-Anne Alcordo-Solomon.

She said that tee off time starts at 5:30 a.m. while the ceremonial tee off is set at 7 a.m.

Entry fee is only P1,500. Proceeds will go to the outreach program for breast cancer of Chong Hua Hospital.

If you can give more than P1,500, why not?
