CEBU, Philippines - The University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) and University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) started their title retention bid with resounding triumphs at the start of CESAFI volleyball tournament yesterday at Aznar Coliseum.
USJ-R spikers of Coach Grace Antigua trounced the University of Cebu (UC) in three easy sets 25-6, 25-19, 25-13 to lead the men’s division. Nestea beach volleyball champs Ariel Carumba and Loujei Tipgos led USJ-R’s attack, with ample help from Leoniel Sanchez, Jacky Yrog-irog and Ken Abunda.
“So far, their performance is fine but I still kept on telling them nga dili gyud mokumpiyansa because we don’t know kung unsay dagan sa duwa. I’m glad that they followed my instructions,” said Antigua.
Another Nestea champions – Erika Camille Verano and Apple Eve Saraum – paced University of Southern Philippine Foundation’s (USPF) victory over Cebu Doctor’s University (CDU) 25-14, 25-12, 25-16.
Coach Jordan Paca, however, hopes his team could sustain their momentum. inners. UV clobbered Cebu Institute of Technology (CIT) 25-18, 25-19, 25-15.
“As far as I can see with the performances of the ladies, they’re doing well but I hope they’ll sustain it, we really still don’t know the different plays of other teams so I just told them to be ready in thinking of whatever attack and defense that they’ll be giving against their next opponents,” said Paca.
