Pecandela, Super Idols reach semis in IBP hoop

CEBU, Philippines - Casino Rubbing Alcohol welcomed the second round with a close 69-67 win in overtime against Mt. Zion, even as top seeds Pecandela Law Firm and Super Idols nailed contrasting victories to proceed into the semifinals of the 3rd Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP) 2009 basketball tournament at the Capitol Parish gym along Escario Street, this city.

Casino’s triumph was duplicated by the Pistons’ 78-74 upset of the heavily-favored Pañeros.

The Pecandela Law Firm booked the first semis after a 70-62 drubbing of the Opascor Eagles, while

league pace-setter Super Idols also marched forward with a 60-43 demolition of YLAC.

Russ Mark Gamallo and Sam Malazarte connived for 37 points for Pecandela, while Jun Hiyas posted a team-high 23 points for the Eagles followed by Ian Santos with 13.

In the main match, Fermin Pepito scattered 25 points, while Benjo Santiago and Ramsey Quijano cashed in 12 and 10 points, respectivley, for the Super Idols, who are still unbeaten in eight games.

 As usual, it was Van Ligutan who led YLAC with 20 markers.
