Daanbantayan Motocross: Conde collars 2 titles
CEBU, Philippines - Ted Conde returned to his hometown with a big bang as he notched twin victories in the 12th leg of the 2009 MS Motosuit Motocross Series billed as the “1st Shun J. Shimura Motocross Competition” in Poblacion, Daanbantayan the other day.
Conde, whose family hails from Daanbantayan, ruled the premiere expert open and intermediate divisions of the Castrol Power 1-presented event.
Conde bested Jon-Jon Adlawan for the expert crown, while Jubenile Abellar placed third. The fourth and fifth spots were occupied by Pepo Rubi and Weng Yapparcon.
In the intermediate class, Conde defeated Abellar for the top spot, while Clark Wagas could only make it to third place.
Crowd-darling John Flores also stole part of the show as he topped the novice open production. He edged out Donkey Sanchez and Aldwin Canlas.
Sanchez though still has something to brag about as he snatched two titles via the beginners and novice open enduro.
Canlas finished second in beginners open production followed by Seigfred Ornopia, while Boni Bustillo took the first runner-up honors in the novice open enduro.
Ornopia did not go home empty-handed as he dominated his favorite executive A category. The skipper of Keiz BJ Racing Team outsmarted Jun Enriquez, while Nonoy Reluya wound up third.
Ornopia’s eldest son Brylle duplicated his father’s feat as he ruled the mini class. He prevailed over BJ Pepito, son of event organizer Malou Pepito, while Tomtom Largosa copped the third place honors.
Pepito, however, did not disappoint his hometown fans as he secured the championship in the peewee class. Female rider Marianne Yapparcon landed at second followed by Brylle’s brothers Ken and Kaizer Ornopia. Kenneth Batolan completed the top five finishers.
Aloy Igot and Felipe Montejo joined the champions’ list after reigning supreme in their respective classes.
Igot lorded it over in the executive B over Gener Sicad and Reluya, while Montejo emerged the best in executive C followed by Sergio Chua and Tata Omoli.
The lung-busting race was made possible through the support of highly-esteemed philantrophist Mariquita Salimbangon-Yedung, Cebu 4th District Rep. Benhur Salimbangon, Daanbantayan Mayor Shun J. Shimura, and Vice Mayor Maria Luisa Loot. (THE FREEMAN)
