USJ-R eyes solo second

- Gabby G. Malagar -

CEBU, Philippines -  The University of San Jose Recoletos (USJ-R) Jaguars shoot for solo second when they go up against the Cebu Institute of Technology (CIT) Wildcats in today's collegiate match of the 9th Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, Inc. (CESAFI) at the Cebu Coliseum.

The Southwestern University (SWU) Cobras, on the other hand, go for its second win versus the University of Southern Philippines (USPF) Panthers in the main game.

The Jaguars are currently tied at second with idle University of the Visayas (UV) Green Lancers with identical 2-1 card.

The University of Cebu (UC) Webmasters are leading the tournament with a perfect 5-0 card.

The Jaguars struggled in their two previous outings needing an end-game savvy in their last game to escape with a 67-66 victory over the University of San Carlos (USC) Warriors, in double overtime.

The Jaguars need a morale-boosting win and may get what they are wishing for with the return of starting guard Arrd Diango. He will be teaming up Edwin Bibera and Kurt Amores.

On the other hand, the Cobras may have lost Eric Zanoria, who had graduated and Alfred Belade because of academic issues but will have Eliud Poligrates, Rene Pacquiao, Eleazar Armecin, Gilbert Gallarde and Chris Litorja at the frontline.

The Panthers will answer with Ellison Rivera, Elwin Durano, Denis Tabada, Randy Avila and  Nuevo-Demo Filoteo.

In the secondary division, the UV Baby Lancers gun for the solo lead this afternoon as they play the unpredictable CIT Wildkittens. The USC Baby Warriors play the CEC Dragons in the opener. (THE FREEMAN)
