Cebu Coastal Adventure Challenge Slated Sept. 19

-

CEBU, Philippines - The 1st Cebu Coastal Adventure Challenge will take place on September 19 starting in Mactan Island Island and ending at Parkmall.

A total of 31 teams from Cebu, Bukidnon, Negros, Manila and Davao have already confirmed their participation in the event.

The 65-kilometer race is a three-man team of either all male, all female or mixed composition.

“With the different tasks given in each key area, this teaches the participants about coastal conservation since this sporting activity aims to save Philippine reefs from trash,” said event organizer Fillip Castro in a press conference the other day at Handuraw Resto Bar in Brgy. Lahug, this city.

“This race is not only intended for those who are strong in adventure racing but this is also for those who think first before doing something,” Castro added.

The urban and coastal race is open to all novice and experienced adventure racers. They will compete for a day of hiking, biking, kayaking, orienting and other mystery challenges, which is expected to be done for six to eight hours, depending on the pace of the team and route selection.

“The race is directional and is supported by clues. Along the way, teams will be faced with a series of “mystery tests”. All the racers need to know for now is that they’ll be doing some amazing things. They’ll definitely need some strategy and teamwork to boost up the fun,” said race director Allan Salazar.

The “leave no trace” principle will be adapted in the event, which includes know before you go, choose the right path, dispose of waste properly, leave what you find and respect wildlife.

Aside from trophies, the champion will pocket P15,000, while the second and third will receive P10,000 and P5,000, respectively.

Registration fee is pegged at P1,500 for the entire three-man team and P5,000 for the corporate sponsored teams. The deadline for the submission of entries is on September 18.

Organized by the Coastal Conservation and Education Foundation Inc. (CCEF), the said sporting activity is based on the values of environmental stewardship and responsible outdoor recreation practices.
