Mandaue pugs fare well in Taguig boxfest

-

CEBU, Philippines - Team Mandaue City of coach Peter Cuizon ended its campaign with one gold, one silver and three bronze medals in the 2009 Mayor Freddie Tinga Cup National Invitational Amateur Boxing Championships over the weekend at the Don Ambrosio gym of the Cantada Sports Center in Bagumbayan, Taguig City.

Joseph Ebalang prevented a gold medal blackout for Mandaue by edging out Palawan’s Rey Pama to rule the 51-kilogram division.

Michael Romarate, who automatically advanced into the final round courtesy of a lucky draw, just settled for a silver after bowing to hometown bet Lorenz Tesorio in the 48 kgs. class.

The Mandaue pugilists who earlier claimed bronze medals were Mark Bernaldez, Gerald Suico and Reoxyl Tabogon. – Caecen No-ot Magsumbol   (THE FREEMAN)
