Lagman whips Satera in Milo tennis tourney

CEBU, Philippines - Jacob Lagman showed what he got from training abroad by leading the cast of winners in the 22nd Milo Juniors Tennis Cup Regional Workshop at the Alta Vista Golf and Country Club.

Lagman, a student of Sacred Heart School-Jesuit, pulled off a lopsided 10-3 victory over Fritz Satera in the boys 14-under class. Lagman just finished a comprehensive training regimen for three months at the Academia Sanchez-Casal in Spain.

The rivalry between Lagman and Satera started when the latter upset the multi-titled Lagman in the Central Visayas Regional Athletic Association (CVIRAA) Meet in Tagbilaran last year.

Even if Lagman had already redeemed himself from defeat against Satera during the Palarong Pambansa of the same year, local followers still look forward to all matches between them aside from the much awaited Lagman-Nino Siso showdown.

In the distaff side, University of the Visayas’ Hannah Grace Espinosa scored a convincing 10-4 triumph against South Cotabato ’s Nikki Arandia.

In the 12-under girls finals, Naga’s Mae Alferez broke the heart of Sheena Camporedondo via a 10-3 decision.

Davao ’s Joel Cantila, on other hand, dumped Christopher Encarnacion, 10-4, in the boys 12-under final, while Pardo’s Arthur Craig Pantino dominated the unisex 10-under after beating Derek Tabotabo, 10-8.

The winners of the event will play against the best of Mindanao, Luzon and the National Capital Region for a chance to represent the country to a series of competition in Malaysia late this month. – Caecent No-ot Magsumbol (THE FREEMAN)
