UC nails second straight win

CEBU, Philippines - The highly-inspired University of Cebu (UC) Webmasters pounded the Cebu Institute of Technology (CIT) Wildcats in the second half en route to scoring a 94-79 victory in the 9th Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, Inc. (CESAFI) basketball season at the Cebu Coliseum.

Fresh from their bigtime 75-73 win over the defending champion University of the Visayas (UV) Green Lancers, the June Mar Fajardo-led Webmasters now take the solo lead with a clean 2-0 slate.

Another featured match takes place today when the University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) Jaguars shoot for their second straight win when they go up against the Southwestern University (SWU) Cobras.

The Webmasters were somehow experimenting on CIT of debuting coach Gilbert Demape during the first period, allowing the latter to dominate but not for long as they realized that they should not take the Wildcats for granted.

At the start of the third period, the Webmasters ripped the game apart with Moncrief Rogado scoring eight straight points to finish with 14 identical with that of Arvin Kim Gomez, son of coach Roel Gomez.

Kevin Quilantang buried a non-essential triple that gave the Webmasters their biggest lead at 23 points, 76-53, at the start of the fourht period.

Fajardo led the Webmasters with 28 points, while Rommel Luceño cashed in 11 markers.

The Wildcats were led by Heroche Molero with 16 points, while rookie Chester Curso added 14 points.
