Cubillas, Malawi vow KO win in Ground & Pound V

CEBU, Philippines - Ricardo “D’ Hammer” Cubillas and Ali “D’ Grappler” Malawi both assured knockout victories when they take on separate foes in the highly-anticipated Ground & Pound V:Retribution - a kickboxing and Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) event set at 7 pm on August 8 at the Cebu Coliseum.

Cubillas of the Butuan Extreme MMA will lock horns with Samchai Sir-Rencho of Tenbudo MMA Malaysia in an MMA superfight set for three rounds under the middleweight (170 lbs.) division, while Malawi of the Mixed Fighting System will clash with Voltaire “Rough Neck” Gonzales of Red Dragon MMA of Tagbilaran City in the main offering of the MMA action.

“Samchai will regret the day he joined MMA after fighting me. I will knock him out or force him into submission in the second round,” said Cubillas.

Likewise, Malawi said his match against Gonzales won’t last the full distance.

“I trained and worked hard for this fight because I want to make a statement. MMA fanatics better watch out for this is a very exciting match. Either one of us will surely kiss the canvass,” declared Malawi.

In the main attraction of the kickboxing card, Renan “Limbas” Noblefranca of Yaw-Yan Cebu ArDigma will trade fistic bombs and power kicks with Jobert “Da Sniper” Bayling of Cagayan de Oro City’s Wushu Sanshou.

The main protagonists of the Ground & Pound V will meet face-to-face during a press conference tomorrow night at the Yaw-Yan ArDigma Cebu Headquarters located at Room 304 of Villacampa-Capuras Building just across the UC-Main Campus along Sanciangko Street, this city. The official weigh-in will be on Thursday at the same venue.

Tickets are priced at P100 for the upperbox, P300 for the lowerbox, P500 for the ringside and P1,000 for VIP/Sponsor.
