CEBU, Philippines - Paula Abigail Vega and differently-abled swimmer Bea Roble powered the Cebu Blue Marlins Swim Club to a sterling performance at the end of the G-League Short and Long Course National Swimming Championships yesterday at Trace Aqua Center in Los Baños, Laguna.

Vega, a varsity at the University of Cebu (UC), took home one gold, four silver, and four bronze medals translated into a total of 55 points to emerge as the Most Outstanding Swimmer in the 17-under class.

During the last day of competition, Vega collected two more silvers through the 200m backstroke and the 800m freestyle.

Paula's brother Michael David also made sure he won't go home empty-handed by grabbing a bronze in the 200m butterfly.

Noel Cañeda, also of UC, ended his bid with a gold from the 200m butterfly and a silver in the 1,500m freestyle.

Noel's younger sister,Trina, wound up with a bronze in the 800m freestyle.

Like Noel Cañeda, Anthony Linn Navarro and Michael Ichiro Kong also punctuated their campaigns with a golden showing.

Navarro bagged a gold in the 200m backstroke and a pair of silver medals in the 1500m freestyle and 50m backstroke, while Kong topped the 50m freestyle.

Overall, CBM of coach Rolando Alvarez placed sixth with eight golds, 14 silvers, and 15 bronzes.

Bea Roble, on the other hand, proved she is worthy to be included in the RP Team for differently-abled athletes by hauling four golds in the 50m,100m and 200m freestyle and the 50m butterfly events. – Caecent No-ot Magsumbol (THE FREEMAN)
