Inter-school 3-on-3 caging slated at BTC

-

CEBU, Philippines – A 3-on-3 basketball tournament for private elementary and secondary schools in Metro Cebu is on the works and will run on four weekends next month.

A mall operator and three of its tenants have pooled their resources together in hosting the series at Banilad Town Centre (BTC) beginning August 8.

Billed as the "1st BTC Cup," it will serve as the 2009 edition of the "Thirsty Hoop Jams" with Nike Athletic Club and Dimsum Break as presenters disclosed Cerwin T. Eviota, BTC marketing director who will also serve as tournament commissioner.

The 1st BTC Cup will be divided into four categories: 10-under (Grades 3 and 4), 12-under (Grades 5 and 6), 14-under (First and Second years) and 16-under (Third and Fourth years).

The high school categories will be open for an all-female competition.

At stake in this tournament that will conclude on Aug. 30 are golden cups for the winning schools and medals for the players under each of the six categories, plus other prizes and surprises from BTC tenants.

Kyle Chiongbian Kokseng chairs the organizing committee of the 1st BTC Cup. Help will come from Charlie Z. Pages of Pages Holdings, Inc (Thirsty), Steven Kokseng of Harbor City Dimsum House, Inc. (Dimsum Break) and Ramon Mackay of Nike Athletic Club.

The committee has tapped the Cebu Basketball Referee Association (CEBRA) to officiate the games. It’s the same group handling the officiating of the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, Inc. (CESAFI) basketball tournaments.

Eviota said formal invitations would be sent to schools by July 13.
