Espinoza, Buenavista top Mactan golf event

CEBU, Philippines – Eugene Dominic Espinoza and MSgt. Pedrito Buenavista topped the Second Quarter Members Tournament at the Mactan Island Golf Club in Lapu-Lapu City last weekend.

The 14-year-old Espinoza fired a net score of 62 strokes off a gross 79 to bag the lowest net honors. He fired nines of 38 and 41.

Buenavista scored a gross three-over-par 75 strokes off nines of 37 and 38 to take the lowest gross honors.

The class A title went to Alejandro ‘Jun’ Dayot III with a net score of 64 off a gross of 76 strokes.

Runner-up honors for the premiere handicap category went to Edwin Espina with a net score of 66 off a gross 78.

Guilbert Purcia, who is in the business of delivering goods to various points around the country, delivered the score last Saturday as he took the class B title with a net score of 66.

Capt. Rhymus Gonzales took time off his busy flying schedule to finish as runner-up with a net score of 67.

Alan Cabahug won the class C plum with a net score of 64 edging runner-up Stephen Chian, who finished with the same net score.

Special awards went to Anson Wu for the longest drive on hole number 1 (340 yards), Jun Dayot for nearest the pin on No. 15 (8 inches) and Roy Damole for the longest putt on No. 18 (27 feet).

Also recognized during the awards ceremony were April champions Andrew Wu for class A, Romano Castillon for class B and Jun Alcantara for class C.

The May winners, who were recognized, were Atty. Marlo Cugtas for class A, Boy Nemenio for class B and Brucedy Chan for class C.

Also given recognition were Atty. Edgar Gica for his ace on hole No. 15 last Jun 27 and Kyu Bok Hwang for a similar feat on hole No. 4 last July 1. — NLQ (THE FREEMAN)
