Sports twits and shout outs

FULL POINT - Nimrod NL Quiñones -

For all of you fans watching the TV coverage of the Wimbledon, you must be missing Anna Kournikova.

Anna, who got many people excited about tennis years ago, has not been playing in tournaments, but I came across a report that she saw some action lately.

Yes folks, Anna saw some action in a bar or should it be catfight in a bar in Las Vegas.

The tennis superstar (I believe she still is despite her absence) has been reported by New York Post to have been thrown a drink by a woman from another table while Kournikova was partying with friends.

Anna reportedly “sprung into action” and “started shoving the woman,” who was eventually booted out of the bar but left the Russian bombshell with several scratch marks.

The report said that the reason why the woman got angry was that she felt Kournikova was invading her space.

If there’s a big star on the table beside you, they’ll surely get the attention even of your date.

That’s enough of the tennis chismis.

Social networking sites allow you to connect with friends and family and even with people you haven’t met yet but share a common interest with.

The growing popularity of sites like Facebook and Twitter has allowed many to keep up with what others are doing and even plan events.

My good friend Mike Besa organizes golf events via Facebook sending out invitations to the Pinoygolf members and posting the events in his shout out.

There are those who announce their triumphs and defeats in sporting events in their shout outs or post pictures of the latest action and those of previous competitions that they suddenly come across in their archives.

Stars like Shaquille O’Neal updates his fans via Twitter and has even posted pictures that you don’t normally see of him taken on and off the basketball court.

Technology has not only allowed us to keep in touch but also to be updated and be able to share with the others what we feel and what we’re doing.

Sometimes you get to know friends better when you see their pictures on these sites and what sports they are getting into.

It was through Facebook that I found out of the love for diving by my high school classmate Dr. Geraldine Alcarez-Co, who seems to have gotten others from our class also interested in the activity.

Of course these sites also allow you to know what your friends have been eating or who they have been meeting.

The world has definitely gotten smaller through the social networking sites and this shall hopefully get more interested in sports.
