CEBU, Philippines - Eric Deen bagged the lowest gross honors in the June Monthly Medal of Cebu Country Club, which was also dubbed as the 2nd Amo Cup in honor of the late golf patron Albino D. Gothong.
Deen scored one-over-par 73 strokes and pulled past Carl Almario in the countback to win the top honors of the tournament.
The class A title went to Anton Florendo, who had a net score of 69 while Macky Michael won the runner-up honors with his net 70 also via the countback over Almario.
Lesmes Garate won the class B title with a net 64 after edging George Hong in the countback. Hong settled for the runner-up honors.
The class C plum went to Makoto Ishii with a net score of 68 while Jacinto Limyutian finished as runner-up with his net 69 after pulling past Robin Craze in the countback.
Noel Ybañez ruled class D with a net score of 69. Runner-up honors went to Alfredo Tan with a net score of 73.
Wellington Lim fired a net score of 65 strokes, the best in the tournament, to rule the seniors’ division. Runner-up honors went to Manuel Granada with a net 69 and beating Robin Craze and Ben Dapat in the countback.
The guest division title went to Andrew Cañete with a net score of 73 off the same gross score while Cho Yong Oh was the runner-up with a net 74 off a gross 78.
Barbara ‘Bambi’ Gothong-Tan, daughter of the late Albino, who golfers fondly called Amo, grace the award rites. – THE FREEMAN
