Chazyl Mae wins first M. Lhuillier cage title
CEBU, Philippines – Chazyl Mae of coach Mark Tallo blasted Binglens, 80-64, in their knockout final duel to seize the inaugural championship of the M. Lhuillier Kwarta Padala Cup basketball tournament at the Talisay City Sports Complex.
Collegiate star Eric Zanoria from the Southwestern University (SWU) Cobras exploded with 21 points for Chazyl Mae, which dictated the tempo of the match since jumping off to a 20-16 start.
The veteran-laden Binglens pulled within three points at halftime, 30-33, but Chazyl Mae restored a six-point edge, 53-47, heading into the final 10 minutes of the contest.
Chazyl Mae sustained its sizzling offensive in the final period whey it outgunned Binglens, 27-17, thus, the 16-point demolition.
Former SWU Cobra Alano Caputolan backed up Zanoria with 12 points even as the likes of former pro star Jimwell Torion and commercial veterans Leo Bat-og, Milfred Sampelo and Michael Luga also made their presence felt on both end sof the court for Chazyl Mae.
Jessie Lumantas paced Binglens with 16 points, while Alain Abellanosa and Michael Amonte had 24 points combined in a losing cause.
