Delos Santos remains unbeaten

CEBU, Philippines – Mary Grace Delos Santos remains unbeaten in Cebu after dominating the 10K version of The Run and Bike for Freedom at the South Road Properties (SRP).

Delos Santos, a runner from Zamboanga, finished the race in 39 minutes and 35.93 seconds.

Despite the unexpected downpour late Friday afternoon, Delos Santos still outsmarted Cebuana Madelyn Carter, who settled for second with 42:28.80, while Joeyry Ann Lee came in third with 43:10.94.

Two other little-known runners, Lorna Bulanta and Aiza  Suwaybaguio completed the top five finishers with their 46:47.71 and 46:55.50 clockings, respectively.

Angelito Sibayan, another out-of-towner, ruled the men’s 10K with a time of 33:07.23. Revodan Aranas finished second in 34:10.57.

Philip Duenas (34:35.58), Sherwin Manaquil (34:40.45) and Adonis Singson (35.33.03) came in third, fourth and fifth, respectively.

Cebuano runners came back to take the men’s and women’s title in the 5K race.

Milijunte Luterte took the challenge of the Delposo Brothers Joel and Eugene and came in the winner in 16:31.58. Joel has to settle for second with a time of 16:41.34 while Eugene came in third in 16:46.26.

Miscelle Gilbuena took the women’s title with a clocking of 21:06.62. Second was Hazel Retavele (22:15.15) while Rose Baylon (22:53.96) came in third.

Eduardo “Eddie” Felisopo ruled Class C in the bike contest outsprinting Hayde Esmalin, Ronald Navarro and Calixto Cruz. Completing the top ten finishers were John Gayatin, Warlito Bastidio, Allan Dungug, William Arresgado, Ryan Ocanada and Constantine Abasola.

The Sports and Fitness Enthusiasts (SAFE), organizer of the event, has delayed the announcement of the winner in Class B because of a protest. — Caecent No-ot Magsumbol (THE FREEMAN)
