The View 2009

Even before I get over the fun of last Friday’s 3rd Y101 Corporate Cup, it’s back to work in the tournament committee, this time for The View Invitational 2009 of Alta Vista Golf and Country Club.

This is the club’s annual member-guest tournament and is set on June 18 to 21 just like the US Open. If you can’t be at the US Open, then join The View hehehe…

I had a peek at the draft of Tito Rolly Santos for the pairings during yesterday’s meeting of the tournament committee and it seems that only a few slots remain to be taken.

Those who wish to register can contact the registration counter of Alta Vista at 2727977. I believe there is also a match-making service that is not meant to help you get a date, but a partner for the tournament.

The View was first held in 1999 and the name was suggested to highlight the majestic sight that golfers see when they play the course located on the hills of Pardo in the southern part of Cebu City.

At Alta Vista the view is great and if you can’t have a good game, for sure you get a great view of the city and some nearby islands.

Here’s something that I got from Amazing But True Golf Facts.

When Golf Magazine asked its readers the question: “If you could play one more round, where would you play?” 47.5 % answered Augusta (home of the US Masters).

Pebble Beach was second with 28.8 percent and St. Andrews was third with 17.5 %.

There were also a lot of jokers who answered the poll that they would play in their local putt-putt course and they comprise 6.2 percent of the sample.

If asked the same question, where would you want to play?

I was reminded yesterday by Mic-mic Bugash, the super hard working member of the UP Cebu High School Alumni Association board that the draw for the Save UP High School Raffle is fast approaching.

I am now reminding those alumni, who still have unsold tickets to start selling them and those with sold tickets to hand them to the batch representatives, who will turn them over to the board.

In case you want to buy, the tickets are just P500 each and you already get to support the scholarship program for the students and also a chance to win a Kia car.

Milestones: I have a long list of greetings for those who celebrated their birthdays starting last Monday,

Let me start with the June 8 celebrants – my judo teammate Paul Dabalos; my wife’s niece Karen Barns, who is now in the Philippines for some volunteer work; Y101’s big boss Martha ‘Mama Cash’ Tuason; my schoolmate Gloria Gapas, and the ever-charming Tita Vicky Moraza.

I would also like to wish my fellow UPian Renan Dalisay a belated happy birthday as he celebrated yesterday.

Happy birthday greetings go to my former student and now ABS-CBN news anchor Atty. Haide Acuña and to my classmate Archt. Patty Rodriguez-Caballero, who are both celebrating today.

More power to all of you!
