RJX five boots out Castrol in CECABA

CEBU, Philippines - RJX Transport Solutions ’99 ousted six-time champion Roadstar/Castrol ’96, 70-55, in the Cebu Eastern College Alumni Basketball Association’s 11th Dr. Chen Lieh Fu Memorial Cup last Thursday night at the City Sports Club-Cebu gym.

Class ’99, thus, completed a three-game sweep to advance into the finals without any glitch. They will face next defending champion Centennial Hardware ’95 for the Division II crown.

Mark Eugene Bukiron scattered 20 points, while All-Star guard and former PBL mainstay Earn Saguindel banged in 19 markers for Class ’99, which smoothly waltzed its way to victory since getting off to a 19- 13 start.

Class ’99 launched its deadliest wave of attack in the third period, 23-10, to further rip the game apart with a 21-point advantage, 56-35, entering the final 10 minutes of the contest. Robinson Yap was the other double-digit scorer for Class ’99 with 14.

In the other game. Young Builders ’91 stalled the finals entry of Shell ’78/85 in convincing fashion, 77-57.

Class ’91 preyed on the fagged out Class ’78/85, which was visibly drained for playing three staight games in less than a week.

Class ’91 used a sizzling 22-11 rally in the second period to break the game wide open at halftime, 42-27. They closed the game with a 22-14 blast, thus, the 20-point demolition.

Tommy Yu exploded with 19 points, while Juan Borromeo, Jr. added 16 markers for Class ’91, which needs to beat Dewfoam ’95 this Sunday to book a finals ticket in Division I.

Edvin Kaw was the lone bright spot on the offensive end for Class ’78/85 with 26 points.
