RJX Transport, Dewfoam win CECABA semis opener

CEBU, Philippines - RJX Transport Solutions ’99 and Dewfoam ’88 hurdled their opening semifinal assignments in the Cebu Eastern College Alumni Basketball Association’s 11th Dr. Chen Lieh Fu Memorial Cup on Thursday night at the City Sports Club-Cebu gym.

Class ’99 handily beat Centennial Hardware ’95, 70-53, while Class ’88 had little trouble in thrashing First Family Appliance ’87/94, 55- 37.

Class ’99 was up by only three at the end of the first period, 19-16, but slowly padded its lead as the game progressed until it balooned to 17 points at the final buzzer courtesy of a game-closing 17-9 run.

Ruben Yap, Jr. had 19 points for Class ’99, Albert Uy added 17, and Earn Saguindel scored 15 in his first game of the season. Lawrence Lauron was the other double-digit scorer for the RJX Solutions-backed squad with 10.

Donald Anthony Ting and Archie Gue each sank 11 markers for Class ’95 followed by Joseph James Yu with 10.

In the other game, flashy guard Erwin Yu nailed 13 points and man mountain Richard Yu chipped in 10 markers for Class ’88, which kept Class ’87/94 at bay since posting a six-point edge, 17-11, early on.

The Dewfoam-sponsored side outscored Class ’87/94 in the final half, 31-17, for the 18-point blowout.

Henrich Chua was the lone double-digit scorer for Class ’87/94 with 14 points.
