PTT Underbone race series to stage 3rd leg in Mandaue

CEBU, Philippines – It’s green and go for the third leg of the PTT Lubricants-sponsored race series billed as the “1st Mayor Jonas Cortes Underbone Rally Cross Racing 2009” from 8 am to 5 pm this Sunday at a specialized racetrack just a stone’s throw away from Cebu Doctors’ University in Mandaue reclamation area.

The event was formally launched yesterday at the Family Choice Restaurant in Gaisano Countrymall. Gracing the affair were PPT Lubricants retail operations manager Fidel Aloba, his assistant Isidro Abella, PTT fuels and lubricants adviser Benjamin Solon, Evvolve Marketing Corp. marketing manager Kenneth Ang, account executive Dandy Tagalog, and race director Edsel Odulio of Power Sports Racing (PRS) Promotions.

Over 50 riders from Cebu, Dipolog, Dumaguete and Leyte are expected to join the one-day tilt co-presented by Evvolve Marketing in association with the city government of Mandaue under the flagship of Mayor Jonas Cortes.

“On the technical side, the competition is tougher this time compared to the previous stagings of our series because the race course is more muddy,” said Odulio.

The categories to be contested are the premiere expert open, beginners, and novice 110cc and 125cc. The champion in the expert division will receive P5,000, while the second and third will take home P3,000 and P2,000, respective. The top three performers in novice class will pocket P3,000, P2,500, and P2,000, while the top three finishers in the both the beginners bracket will take home P2,500, P2,000, and P1,500. The fourth and fifth placers in all categories will get a consolation prize of P500 each.

There will also be a special race for Cebu’s top motocross riders featuring MS Motosuit image model Jonjon Aldawan and the decorated Abellar siblings Jovanni and Jubenile.

There will be practice runs tomorrow so the participants can get familiar with the venue, while the race proper will be on Sunday.

Registration fee is pegged at P200 inclusive of a motor oil. Assorted freebies such a t-shirts, key chains and stickers will be given away to the spectators.

The PTT Lubricants-bankrolled underbone race series, which already had its legs in OPRRA and the South Road Properties (SRP), will have its next two stops in the cities of Lapu-Lapu and Dumaguete. – EBV (THE FREEMAN)
