Castrol '96 notches 12th win in CECABA

CEBU, Philippines – Roadstar/Castrol ’96 easily manhandled PTT Lubricants 2005, 74-62, for its 12th win against a solitary defeat in the Cebu Eastern College Alumni Basketball Association’s 11th Dr. Chen Lieh Fu Memorial Cup last Saturday night at the CEC gym.

Class ’96 was all business from the start to blow the game wide open after the first 10 minutes of play, 20-5. Class 2005 charged back in the middle quarters to pull within two points, 51-53, but that was its last hurrah as Class ’96 responded with a 21-11 bang to preserve the double-digit victory.

Dreyfuss Ang topscored with 15 points, five rebounds, and two assists, while Mark Ryan Babor finished with 11 points on top of 13 rebounds for Class ’96. Arniel Frank Pelaez also had 11 points, while Emmanuel Baron and Franklin Neil Ong each contributed 10 markers.

Philip John Lua fired 18 points, six rebounds, two assists and two steals, while Kristoffer Dennis Lee added 11 points, four rebounds, two assists and two steals for Class 2005. Kent Benedict Uy submitted 10 points on top of a rare triple seven - rebounds , assists and steals but fell short in the end as they slipped to 5-9.

In the other game, Schick Razor ’84/92 streaked past Young Builders ’91, 66-61, for its only third victory in a dozen games.

Class ’84/92 trailed by two at the end of the third period, 48-50, but turned the tables on Class ’91 using an 18-11 endgame run.

Jorgen Kong emerged as the biggest surprise for Class ’84/92 with a season-high 22 points on top of four rebounds and two assists. Star center Sammy Sia scattered 18 points, 14 rebounds and four assists, while Richard Lanutan pumped in 16 markers and dished out five assists.

Juan Borromeo, Jr. had 18 points, 12 rebounds and four assists, while Kevin Co added 13 points, three rebounds and three assists for Class ’91, which dropped to 6-7.
