Shell '78/'85 dumps '84/'92 Cokaliong rains 11 triples

-

CEBU, Philippines - Chester Cokaliong broke his own mark for the most number of triples made in a single game this season as he powered Shell '78/‘85 to a 90-60 thrashing of Schick Razor '84/‘92 in the Cebu Eastern College Alumni Basketball Association's 11th Dr. Chen Lieh Fu Memorial Cup on Thursday night at the City Sports Club-Cebu gym.

Cokaliong knocked in 11 triples to finish with 33 points, erasing his previous record of 10 3-pointers during their 117-76 massacre of MFL Mini-Mart '98-A last Tuesday.

Class '78/‘85 closed the first half with a 41-29 advantage and then launched another devastating wave of attack, 21-10, to mount a commanding 23-point lead, 62-39, heading into the final 10 minutes of the contest. Class '84/‘92 was a complete mess the rest of the way with only star center Sammy Sia and Richard Lanutan displaying good plays.

Joel Chan submitted his fourth triple-double of the season finishing with 15 points, 19 rebounds, 10 assists and three steals as Class '78/‘85 firmed up its hold of the Division I lead with a 10-1 win-loss record. Edvin Kaw also had 15 points on top of nine rebounds and two steals, while Wilty Yap pitched in 10 points, 10 rebounds, five assists and a season-best five steals.

Lanutan scored 22 on top of four assists and three rebounds, while Sia had 17 points and the same number of rebounds for Class '84/‘92, which slipped to 2-6.

In the other game, Castrol/Roadstar '96 pummeled GCM Enterprise '98-B, 76-47. The Castrol-backed squad was ahead by only seven points at halftime, 31-24, but launched a searing 25-10 rally in the third period to rip the game apart, 56-34.

Gerald Chua had 13 points and five rebounds, while Shaun Christopher Wang and Mark Ryan Babor each had 10 markers as Class '96 improved to 8-1. Robinson Yap had 19 points and five rebounds, while Uy and Michael Rhys Po connived for 21 markers but they fell short in the end as Class '98-B suffered its fourth defeat in nine games.
