Head Penn Tennis Circuit Bacolod Leg: Cebu bags three golds

-

CEBU, Philippines - The Cebuano netters, most of them from SANCASE Developmental Training Pool of Fr. Rey Talaugon, bagged three titles and the same number of first runner-up honors in the Bacolod City leg of the 2009 Head Penn Age-Group Tennis Circuit at the Noah’s Haven tennis courts.

Cebu’s three golds were produced by Niño Siso, RJ Abarquez and Jan Godfrey Seno.

Siso forced Paulo Cansino of Davao to retire when he posted a 6-3 lead in the first set to rule the boys 16 category, but fell prey to teammate RJ Abarquez, 4-6, 6-1, 8-10, in the boys 18 class.

Niño’s sister Sallydine was not as lucky as she settled for just a runner-up trophy in the girls 18-under division. She bowed to hometown favoriteTao Yee Tan, 6-2, 2-3, 13-14 in their nerve-wracking final showdown.

Seno, on the other hand, handed Cebu’s third gold after pulling off a 6-2, 6-4 victory against Bern Haft in the unisex 10-under final.

Fritz Satera, for his part, missed another opportunity to win a title as he was outsmarted by Bacolod’s Paulo Baran 2-6, 6-4, 6-10 in their thrilling 14-under championship match. —Caecent No-ot Magsumbol   (THE FREEMAN)
