Duenas tops Run for Sight 10-K race

CEBU, Philippines – Southwestern University’s John Philip Duenas is the first men’s open champion of the Monthly Run For Sight at Cebu Doctor’s University held at the Mandaue City reclamation area the other day.

Duenas claimed the title of premiere class of the10-K run against Dr. Yong Larrazabal, the man behind this event.

Duenas finished the race in 36 minutes and 20.120 seconds while Larrazabal clocked 37:12.240.

Charlie Berberio landed third with 37:38.79 clocking while the fourth to 10th placers were Jojo Cañete (38:34.310), Jun Alipin (38:56.620), Isabelo Cuadras (39:37.380), Jeofrey Nastor (39:44.970), Vincent Aguanta (40:39.210), Leo Abello (41:09.390); and Avelino Lendio with 42:42.210.

In the distaff side, it was Madelyn Carter who claimed the top spot.

Carter outran the Naga City-bound Michelle Gilbuena with her 36:05.45 clocking as the latter posted 37:04.74.

Carter actually crossed the finish line first against Duenas, but it didn’t mean she was faster, only, the girls were running on a slightly shorter course.

Claire Ann Maranga wound up third with 42:22.70 while Melinda Ponce was fourth with her 45:19.57 and Marina Leparda at fifth spot with 48:08.93.

Completing the women’s open winners’ circle were Julie Jo Chan (49:34.30), Vivian Biagan (51:37.89), Abe Ponce (54:28.70) and Twinkle Ignas with 57:52.94.

A five-kilometer run was also held yesterday, but was only meant for the fun runners.

The next race of this event handled by Sports and Fitness Enthusiasts (SAFE) is tentatively set on April 12. – Caecent No-ot Magsumbol (THE FREEMAN)
