CECABA Caging: RJX five, Castrol rout foes

-

CEBU, Philippines – RJX Transport Solutions ’99 and Roadstar/Castrol ’96 blasted separate foes in the Cebu Eastern College Alumni Basketball Association’s 11th Dr. Chen Lieh Fu Memorial Cup on Tuesday night at the City Sports Club-Cebu gym.

Mark Eugene Bukiron exploded with a season-best 35 points as Class ’99 thrashed First ACY Shipping 2006, 84-71, while Class ’96 displayed great team effort in gunning down the slumping Chester Enterprises ’82/83, 73-58.

Bukiron, who shot a spectacular 15-of-28 from the field, also had eight rebounds, three steals and one assists as Class ’99 notched its ninth win against a solitary loss.

Ruben Yap, Jr. added 13 points, seven rebounds, five assists and three steals for Class ’99, which battered the hapless Class 2006 right after the opening buzzer to mount a commanding 43-23 lead at halftime. Class 2006 rallied back in the last two quarters, but Class ’99 easily waltzed its away to a 13-point victory.

Junwynn Dy scattered 32 points, nine rebounds, three assists and two steals, while Nolsie John Cisneros tossed in 23 markers on top of 10 caroms and two steals but their efforts were to no avail as Class 2006 stayed winless in six starts.

Earlier, Franklin Neil Ong had 16 points, 13 in the ferocious first-quarter onslaught, on top of four steals and three rebounds and Rogelio Donayre added 13 points, five assists and three rebounds as Class ’96 bettered its win-loss record to 5-1. Arniel Frank Pelaez and Dreyfuss Ang contributed 20 points, 10 rebounds, and four assists for the Castrol-backed squad.

Class ’96 opened the game with a back-breaking 27-4 rally and there was not doubt from there as to who would emerge the victor.

As usual, top gunner Stephen Tan paced Class ’82/83 with 22 points, 11 rebounds, four assists, and two blocks. Cesar Ting added 11 points, while Christopher Cokaliong banked 10 points and 13 rebounds as they absorbed their sixth consecutive setback after an impressive 2-0 start.
