Dewfoam bends Schick Razor for seventh straight victory in CECABA

-

CEBU, Philippines - What a way to bounce back from a season-opening loss. The rampaging Dewfoam ’88 extended its winning streak to seven with a 68-56 bashing of Schick Razor ’84/92 in the Cebu Eastern College Alumni Basketball Association’s 11th Dr. Chen Lieh Fu Memorial Cup last Saturday at the CEC gym.

Harry Villamor had 19 points and bull-strong forward Gregorio Aguilar added 17 points, eight rebounds and three assists for Class ’88, which firmed up its grip of the second place in the 16-team field competition with a 7-1 win-loss record.

Both teams fought on even playing field at the outset resulting into a 26-all deadlock at halftime, but Villamor, Aguilar and man mountain Richard Yu presided over a daring third-quarter breakaway to push Class ’88 on top by 10 points for good, 47-37, heading into the payoff period.

Yu, who scored eight of his nine points in the final half, also keyed Dewfoam’s win finishing with five rebounds, four assists, three blocks and two steals.

Star center Sammy Sia charted 28 points, eight rebounds and two assists, while Richard Lanutan and Peter Lo Dy banged in 21 markers combined for Class ’84/92, which tasted its fourth defeat in five starts.

In the other game, JRJ Enterprises/Semers 2007 overcame a spirited resistance by First ACY Shipping to walk away with a 64-54 victory in overtime.

In the extra five-minute period, Class 2007 poured out all its left and battered the obviously fagged out Class 2006, 14-4, for the kill.
