SWU eyes seven-game sweep in Partners' Cup hoop
CEBU, Philippines - The Hotel Fortuna/SWU Cobras shoot for a seven-game elimination round sweep when they go up against the Virginia/CIT Wildcats today in the 3rd CESAFI Partners’ Cup, which shifts action to the Mandaue City Sports and Cultural Complex.
Games today (Mandaue)
6:00 pm Hotel Fortuna/SWU vs. Virginia/CIT
7:30 pm Ave Maria/USJR vs. Enervon/UC
In the other game, no. 2 qualifier Enervon/UC Webmasters battle the Ave Maria Sanctuary Park/USJ-R Jaguars in a prestige match.
Win or lose, it doesn’t matter for the Cobras but ranged against the Wildcats, there is no reason for them to lose by upset.
The urgency to win though is more important for the Webmasters, who have a history of losing crucial matches in the CESAFI that had been the deterrent to their previous semifinal campaigns.
With June Mar Fajardo healthy and Moncrief Rogado living up to his lofty billing as the league’s three-point king, there’s so much preparation for the Jaguars in order to counter the Webmasters’ offense.
Too bad for the Jaguars, Rogado is playing before his hometown fans from Mandaue and every triple he will drop in will surely draw a wild applause from his pals from barangay Mantuyong, which is just a walking distance from the venue.
The Webmasters could also count on Jannsen Abella, Edward Pao and Kevin Quilantang as they bid for their best ever record in Partners’ Cup.
The Jaguars, on the other hand, depend heavily on Armand Ponce, Ranulfo Malinao, Jabe Delfino and Kurt Amores. - GGM (THE FREEMAN)
