Walk, don't run
“Walk Don’t Run” was the Ventures’ top hit in the 60s. It’s also the theme of Holiday Gym and Spa when it holds its 3rd Annual Healthy Living Walk on March 15 at the Holiday Gym and Spa parking lot in Banilad. Gym supervisor Annie Neric, who recently ruled the Rotarians women’s category of the Rotary Run, said they are living up to their slogan “Campaigning for a healthy living”. The walk that covers 8 kilometers or 10, 000 steps will be staged ahead of its gym’s branch in Davao City which will stage their own walk on March 22. Annie also said, this is a warm up for the Holiday Gym & Spa Run to the Max 10 Miler II which will be held in September or first week of October. Actually this year’s walk is a fund-raising project for the United Social Welfare Assistance Group (USWAG) of Poblacion, Danao City. Participants will be required to register for only P30.00. The total amount generated will be duplicated by Holiday Gym and Spa and will be donated to USWAG. So let’s stop running for a while and walk for a cause. Remember this is not a competition but I’m sure you’ll get a great feeling especially if you know you’re making some people happy. For more details call HGS at 232-4828 or 234-4791.
Earth Run
Now, let’s go back to running. The Personnel Manager Association of the Philippines (PMAP) will stage a 5K run on April 19 at the Cebu Provincial Capitol. The run is another fund-raising project of PMAP to help its outreach programs. Prime movers Chona Chojas and Flor Tangpus of Mitsubishi Motors said they are expecting over 500 runners. PMAP has tapped yours truly to direct the race. Registration will soon start at the PSC office in the Cebu City Sports Center. And just when thought I’ll be getting a little rest this summer, ProSports Boyet Rentoy called and asked me to get ready as we are flying to Puerto Princessa in Palawan to organize another 10K run there in the last week of April. As you read this column I’m probably in Bacolod to likewise start cooking the Negros Marathon in May. Then also in the last week of May, we will revive the Arthro Cebu Mountain Trail Run in Kalunasan. Well it’s gonna be one hell of a summer, besides the heat of course. –THE FREEMAN
