Dewfoam '88 extends win streak to three in CECABA

CEBU, Philippines – Dewfoam ’88 extended its winning streak to three at the expense of PTT Lubricants 2005, 71-63, in the Cebu Eastern College Alumni Basketball Association’s 11th Dr. Chen Lieh Fu Memorial Cup last Saturday at the CEC gym.

Bull-strong forward Gregorio Aguilar and top center Ricky Yu both charted season-high 20 points as Class ’88 jumped to solo second place with a 3-1 win-loss record.

The Dewfoam-backed squad actually trailed by six points after the first period, 13-19, but rallied back in the middle quarters to seize the lead, 48-47, for good heading into the final 10 minutes of the contest. Class ’88 then wrapped up the match with a 23-16 run in the windup.

Kent Benedict Uy had 19 points and Karl Jigo Salibio added 15 markers for Class 2005, which dropped to 2-2.

In the other game, Shick Razor ’84/92 finally barged into the column after outlasting JRJ Enterprises/Semers 2007, 60-57. Star center Sammy Sia pumped in a season-high 34 points as Class ’84/92 snapped out of a two-game losing skid while dealing Class 2007 its second consecutive defeat in as many games.

So explosive Sia was that he banged in a dozen points as they raced to a 13-7 start. They rebuffed repeated comeback attempts by Class 2007 in the closing minutes of the game to hang on to a shaky three-point win.

Sia was backed up by Peter Po Dy with 12 points. Juan Carlo Espada paced Class 2007 with 19 points followed by Raymark Ryan Ong with 17.
