Ocañada shines as CCC-CSD Builders thrash Binglens in friendly match

CEBU - Aldrin Ocañada bombed out 24 points as host Carmen Copper Corporation-Construction Services Department (CCC-CSD) Builders demolished ACN/Binglens, 91-76, in their basketball exhibition match the other night at the CCC Recreation Center in Brgy. Lutopan, Toledo City.

After missing his first two attempts, Ocañada drilled in a triple to break the ice of the match for the Builders at the 5:12 mark of the first period. Coincidentally, it was also his basket that gave the Builders their biggest lead of 20 points, 42-22, with still 6:13 left to play in the second quarter.

While Ocañada was busy with his outside sniping, Danny de los Santos and Franklin Nailon asserted their authority at the shaded lane. The likes of Michael Sereño provided a big boost at the backcourt as he teamed up with the veteran Raul Redulosa and Jared Kane Abatayo to check Binglens’ three-man guard rotation of Ope Abellana, Reggie Licanda and Roebucks Abella.

Almost everybody from the Builders of coach Boboy Cal contributed in offense with Delos Santos scoring 12 and Sereño adding 11 markers.

Binglens staged a 7-0 rally anchored on six straight points by Rey dela Victoria, but could only chop the deficit down to 13, 29-42, late in the second period. The closest they could muster was to pull within six, 67-73, on Dela Victoria late in the final canto.

Almonte topscored for Binglens of team owner Allan C. Nazareno and coach Ervie Diola with 21 points. Dela Victoria added 14 points, while Abellana donated 13 points.

In the preliminary match, the Toledo Legislators defeated host CCC Staff, 88-83.

The CCC-ACN Binglens game in Lutopan was made possible through the efforts of team consultant Romy Cal, the former champion coach of the Gilbert Demape-led CIT Wildkittens in the early ’90s.

It was sponsored by the Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Parish under its president Tessie Cal.
