CESAFI beach volley unfurls today at Wiggy's
CEBU - After several postponements, the beach volley event of the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, Inc. (CESAFI) goes full swing today with the University of San Carlos (USC) and University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) all set to defend their respective titles at the Wiggy’s Beach Resort in Liloan, Cebu .
The Eugene de la Cerna-mentored USC will again be bannered by the decorated Roderick Arenasa, who will be paired with rookie Kennith Besig as its guns for a historic grandslam feat in the men’s division.
Last year, Arenasa teamed up with Edward Carlo Tecson in handing over back-to-back crowns for the Carolinians.
USC will open its bid for a third straight championship against the University of Cebu (UC) this morning.
In the other men’s action, Ariel Carumba and Louiejie Tipgos of USJ-R will go up against Cebu Doctors’ University, while Edward Ybañez and Mark Ryan Abut of the University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) will square off against Jade Becaldo and James Ryan Rivera of the University of the Visayas (UV). Interestingly, Rivera is a formerly with the USPF.
In the distaff side, USJ-R of Cebu Sports Hall of Famer coach Grace Antigua will parade new players in Joy Bonita and Rachel Hannah Singson as it launches its title retention bid against CDU and Jerymie Montalvo and Chona Gesulga of USC later in the afternoon.
The USJ-R belles see Southwestern University (SWU) and USPF as their toughest obtacles towards defending their throne.
SWU of coach Janeth Ponte will be powered by Danika Yolanda Gendrauli and Lorie Mae Layno, who will be taking on the tandem of Noriena Castro and Ivy Abella of UV in today’s curtain-raiser.
The Jordan Paca coached-USPF will tap the services of Ericka Camille Verano and Harlene Ybarita as it tries to CDU and SWU.
