MJDL dumps Pimentel Brokers in Collector's Cup hoop

CEBU - The MJDL Brokers rode on the breakout performances of ex-USC Warrior Danny Infantado ang Baeng Medalle to pull off a 97-80 rout of Pimentel Brokers in the 35-below division of the 14th District Collector’s Cup basketball tournament at the Don Vicente Sotto Memorial Gym in Brgy. Punta Princesa, this city.

Infantado and Medalle, a former USJ-R Jaguars guard, fired 28 and 21 points, respectively, as MJDL cruised to its third win in five games. Medalle’s 11 points in the fourth period capped by back-to-back triples broke the backs of the Pimentel cagers.

Adonis Morata, who played for the Lapu-Lapu Chiefs in the Inter-City Cup, paced Pimentel with 17 points, while the high-leaping Francis Palero added 13 points. They fell to 2-4.

Pimentel took a slim 43-41 lead at halftime, but MJDL pulled away in the second half.

 Earlier, ex-SWU Cobra Sanshane Barita calmly sank a pair of free throws with a second remaining in the game to lift the Enforcement Security Service (ESS) to an 89-88 clifhanger over the District Collector’s Office in the 35-above category, while MJDL won by default over the listless Chamber of Customs Brokers Inc. (CCBI).

Jingjing Rama, a noted three-point artist, chipped in 18 markers for ESS.

The District Collector’s Office had a chance to win, but Aris Jayme missed his charities. In the return play, Barita scooped an ill-advised foul that sent him to the foul line for the kill.

With the double victory, the Mike Logarta-owned MJDL improved its win-loss record to 3-2.
