Blue Marlins make waves in Iloilo meet

Cebu - The Cebu Blue Marlins went off a splashing start in the 2nd Iloilo Dinagyang Age-group Swimfest at the Iloilo Sports Complex in Lapaz, Iloilo City.

So far, CBM hauled 18 golds, 16 silvers and 15 bronzes in the first day of competition to make it to the top three in the overall standings out of 13 teams.

Anthony Linn Navarro won all his first four events in the boys’10-under and led CBM’s double victory in the 4x50 meter freestyle and medley events.

Lyh Ann, Anthony Linn’s sister, for her part, got a gold and three silvers so far.

Another CBM bet, Kristina Angelika Torres also won four golds in girls’ 6-under while Aimee Sanchez had a gold and two bronzes from the girls’18-under class.

Karen Indaya and Noel Caneda who are competing in the 7-8 age brackets have one gold each plus three and four bronzes, respectively.

Another CBM swimmer Rhys Michale Tapang had three golds, so far, while his brother Rian Raphael pocketed gold and three bronzes.

While the Navarros and Tapangs had a great day, the Vega siblings are experiencing some rough times and have yet to win a gold medal. Michael David has won silver in the 18-above category while Paula Abigail, who is swimming in the 15-17 class, has won three bronze medals.

The other medal contributors for CBM, in the first day of action, were Michael Ichiro Kong (two silvers), Trina Caneda (silver) Cristine Indaya (bronze), Romylin Lina Ignacio and Joyce Huguete (bronze). — Caecent No-ot Magsumbol (THE FREEMAN)
