TCC booters reach final in POF event

CEBU - Team Cebu City’s Under-15 football squad hopes to duplicate the feat of its Under-14 counterpart last year as it advanced into the final round of the 3rd Philippine Olympic Festival yesterday in Cagayan de Oro City.

The TCC booters need at least a draw against Negros Occidental to snatch the under-15 crown.

TCC sports a clean 3-0 slate, while Negros Occidental has two wins and a draw.

In karatedo, TCC collared four golds, two silvers and two bronzes. However, the results of which still have to be clarified whether all their medals will be counted in the POF tally or are just NSA (National Sports Association) entries.

The TCC swimmers, for their part, ended their campaign with a gold,four silvers and five bronzes in the POF tally and 15 golds, 10 silvers and 12 bronzes in the Philippine Amateur Swimming Association (PASA) events.    They also had a gold, a silver and a bronze in the PHILSPADA side of the competition courtesy of Joey Maglasang.

Aside from that, three members of TCC-Cebu Blue Marlins also got special awards.

University of Cebu’s Noel Caneda was feted for winning the first place honors with total of 2,267 points in the 17-under boys IMX sextathlon, while Cebu Eastern College’s Lyh Ann Navarro reigned supreme in the under-9 pentathlon with 1, 258 FINA points. 

Not to be outdone, Anthony Linn Navarro reset his own record in the 10-under backstroke with the time of one minute and 24.74 seconds. He also landed second in his class with 1,277 FINA points to claim another award in the 10-IMX pentathlon.

Another Cebuana bet, Maria Christina Redina, won gold in powerlifting under the 48 kgs. category. – Caecent No-ot Magsumbol (THE FREEMAN)
