MOVE 5k Run 2 kicks off today

-

CEBU – More than 400 running enthusiasts, including some 30 wheelchair runners, will participate today in MOVE 5K Run 2 for Persons with Disabilities (PWD’s) at Parkmall in the North Reclamation Area.

Now on its second year, the charity run had attracted the attention of Cebu’s running community because the proceeds of the event had helped PWD’s in the Visayas through the critical illness fund of the Philippine Association of Rehab Medicine (PARM).

Dr. Renald Ramiro, president of PARM, and the organizer of the charity run said that they had already helped four PWDs in the Visayas. The latest among those that received help was a 16-year Ilonggo patient Edison Bansale from Sara, Iloilo.

Dr. Atanasia Siva and Dr. Minda Cabrera of PARM Visayas-Iloilo referred the patient to Dr. Ramiro. The patient had been suffering from various ailments like progressive weakness in lower extremities, pneumonia, anemia, ulcers and UTI.

Those who participate in the MOVE charity run cherish the chance to help such indigent PWD’s and organizers are expecting more runners to patronize future editions of the fun run as it will include a 10K category next year.

The MOVE charity run opened this year’s Masskara festival in Bacolod City and next year it will be the official running event of the said event. There are also plans to hold MOVE charity runs in Iloilo and Tacloban.

This year’s run will start and finish at Parkmall parking lot. From there the runners will turn right and make a U-turn towards Jollibee, go straight to SMC warehouse after Mandaue Hospital, make another U-turn, then head to CICC and back to Parkmall.

The race will promptly start at 6 am. (RBO) (THE FREEMAN)
