SC ruling won't affect grouping as 4th GUV Cup heads to Bogo

CEBU - The Supreme Court decision reverting the status of three cities back to towns will not affect their grouping in the 4th Gov. Gwendolyn F. Garcia Unity Volleyball (GUV) Cup for Women, which holds the city cluster action today in Bogo.

“As of now, as is ang tanan. Even with the issue regarding Naga, Carcar and Bogo’s cityhood status,” said Nonna Catipay of the Cebu Volleyball Association (CEVA) to The Freeman.

The two-day action will feature eight teams with all the component cities of the Cebu Province taking part.

Composing bracket A are defending champion Lapu-Lapu, Talisay, Carcar and Naga while bracket B will have Mandaue, Toledo, Danao and Bogo.

The top two teams of each bracket will then advance to the semifinal round to be played at the Cebu International Convention Center.

In a related development, the quarterfinals of the all-municipalities action will start on the 15th of December also at the CICC Summit Hall.

There are 12 teams involved so they will be divided into two brackets with each bracket to compose three cluster champions and three runners-up.

The semifinal round, on the other hand, is scheduled on the 18th and 19th along with that of the city cluster.

The championship game will be on the 20th for both the municipalities and city cluster.

Organizers of the event decided to stage the quarterfinals down to the championship game at the CICC so there will be as many teams possible to experience playing on the Taraflex surface. — Caecent No-ot Magsumbol (THE FREEMAN)
