Customs cage tourney set to kick off Nov. 25

-

CEBU - The basketball-loving rank and file employees of the Bureau of Customs headed by District Collector Ricardo Belmonte and the members of the Customs Employees and Brokers Union (C.E.B.U.) will once again showcase their athletic wares during the 14th District Collector’s Cup set to open on November 25 at the Mandaue City Cultural and Sports Complex.

Five teams will see action in the 35 years old and below category, while eight teams will vie for top honors in the 35-above age bracket.

The MJDL Brokerage of team owner Michael Jude D. Logarta will defend its title for the fifth time in the 35- below category. The other teams listed in this division are Amancia Filmore Brokerage, Assessment led by division chief Carlos Corsega and Collector Maximo Reyes, Pimentel-Limasawa Brokerage of team owner Marte Pimentel, and SUGBO Brokerage.

The Enforcement Security Service (ESS) X-ray Division, which members are mostly Customs Police led by Gino Menquillan, will stake its crown in the 35-above class, but this year there are a lot of contenders out to dethrone them.

These are the Dictrict Collector’s Office headed by Dick Gaviño and coach Atty. Paul Alcazaren, MJDL of Gigi Ylaya, O-COM/Pimentel, CCBI, Port operations Division (POD) of Edgar Caballes, Mactan of Dhacky Ugay and Pinggo Matugas, and C-CUPA led by Ulysses Cena.

The tournament commissioner is Dione Edera of the Customs Intelligence and Investigation Service (CIIS), while Rady Abarintos is the chairman of the officiating committee. (GGM) (THE FREEMAN)
