All set for La Salle-Ateneo golfest
CEBU - All is set for the 7th La Salle-Ateneo Golf Classic Cebu this Monday and Tuesday at the Cebu Country Club.
The tournament is open to alumni of both La Salle and Jesuit schools. Entry fee is pegged at P1,000 for members of the host club and P2,000 for non-members.
Aside from the battle for overall team honors, there will be competitions in four handicap categories. Class A will be for players with handicaps between 0 to 11, B for 12 to 20 and C for 21 above. Those without a club certified handicap will play in the open division where the System-36 handicapping will be used.
Due to the interest of non-alumni from either school to join the event, there is a guest division.
All participants will get a putter as giveaway. Tee off time starts at 8 a.m.
Present in yesterday’s press conference at the Cebu Country Club were Javy Quintos, president of the One La Salle Cebu Alumni Association and Tony Pineda, president of the Ateneo Alumni Association-Cebu Chapter.
All present for the activity were La Salle skipper Nino Bascon, tournament chairman John Pages and OLSCAA secretary Bobby Martinez.
On the Ateneo side, skipper Toby Florendo and lawyer Jovi Neri were also on hand.
On Tuesday, the two teams will field their eight best players in a Ryder Cup-style matchplay event. There will be a best-ball match, a high-low match, a scramble match and the only singles match will be that one pitting Quintos against Pineda, the two presidents.
At stake for a hole-in-one is a Zongshen motorcycle, which will be raffled off during the awards night if not won during the competition.
The awards ceremony will be held at Teatro Casino inside the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel and Casino.
Major sponsors are PLDT, Filinvest, RDak Transport, Kings Quality Foods Inc, Fine Upgrades Inc, and Pagcor.
Other backers of the tournament are Plantation Bay Resort, Mooon Cafe, Commonwealth Estate Inc, Kainos Medical Clinics, D + B, BT 105.9 Monster Radio and Y101. (THE FREEMAN)
