2 from Cebu to join RP team in Bali tiff

-

CEBU – Two Cebuanos will be competing the beach volleyball event of the 2008 Asian Beach Games in Bali, Indonesia on October 18 to 26.

The two are Jusabelle Brillo and Junrey Sasing.

Brillo was the first to join the RP volleyball team while Sasing just joined the elite squad middle of last week.

Sasing was a bit reluctant to join the RP team as he had to sacrifice his job here in Cebu since their training will be in Manila.

Brillo, for her part, had to quit school momentarily at the University of the Visayas to try her luck with the RP team.

Coach Dante “Nonoy” Lopez agreed that Sasing will have to do his training here in Cebu for a while, but made sure he gets to practice with his teammates a few days before they depart for Bali.

Lopez in an interview with The Freeman said, he wants Sasing in his team just as he badly needed Brillo.

Sasing, according to Lopez is the best Cebuano beach volleyball player he saw among the present crop of Cebuano talents who joined the Nestea Beach Volley event the past two years.

Sasing is a high leaper and is on his prime that Lopez also wants to give him the international exposure like Brillo.

The two are however unsure of their tenure in the national squad.

Brillo might stay on if she gets enlisted with either the Philippine Army or the Air Force.

She has admitted that it is difficult budgeting the meager allowance given to them by the Philippine Sports Commission not to mention battling with homesickness.

The Freeman learned that Brillo already passed the written exam in the Philippine Army, but had to pass other requirements yet.

Many RP team members are also under the AFP so they get more salary that will help them survive in Manila. – Caecent No-ot Magsumbol (THE FREEMAN)
