CEBU - Cresenciano Sabal of Sultan Kudarat got the surprise of everyone after he topped the men’s open division of the 2nd Friendship Run yesterday starting and ending at the Cebu Business Park.
Thus, Sabal prevented Elmer Bartolo of Davao from claiming three straight championship here.
Bartolo finished the 10-kilometer race in 31 minutes and 38.95 seconds, a minute ahead of second placer Bartolo.
Cebuano Riez Enriquez and defending champion Eugene Delposo could only settle for third and fourth, respectively, while Ian Bernido placed fifth.
In the women’s division, Cagayan de Oro’s Ailene Tolentino outpaced Liezl Lumindas-Gitaruelas in the final stretch to clinch the title.Tolentino clocked in 39 minutes and 37 seconds, while Gitaruelas completed the lung-busting action in 40 minutes and 11 seconds.
Madelyn Carter took the third place honors with the time of 41:37.
The masters A and B were dominated by Ruth Banzon and Rey Duque.
John Philip Duenas of Southwestern University, on the other hand, prevented Mendel Lopez from making a rousing comeback by ruling the men’s 5K race. In the distaff side, Mary Jane Beboso outsmarted Joery Ann Lee for the crown.
