CEBU - Cebuano Roy Laude and a Manileño partner topped the open doubles competition of the Philippine World Championships darts qualifier recently at the Sta. Lucia East Grand Mall in Cainta, Rizal.
Laude showed why he is one of the top bets of the Cebu City Hall Employees Darts Association (CHEDA) Niños after surviving the battle the hard way.
Laude, who teamed up with Jeffrey Quintas, broke the hearts of one of the country’s best darts players, Jojo Barillano, and his partner in the final round.
Laude and Quintas actually had to go through the loser’s bracket before facing the twice-to-beat Barillano.
In their first battle which follows a 501 best-of-three match, Laude and Quintas defeated Barillanos’ team, 2-0, to forge a 701 single game to determine the winner.
In the end, it was Laude and Quintas who had the last laugh.
Aside from the doubles championship trophy, Laude also made it to the top 16 in the RP rankings.
CHEDA led by its team manager Bert Colong Jr. extended their gratitude to Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña for providing them financial support in their trip to Cainta. – Caecent No-ot Magsumbol (THE FREEMAN)
